HARRISBURG — In a heartbreaking case that has gripped Sullivan County, the parents of a newborn who died in January 2022 have pleaded guilty to charges related to their failure to seek medical help for their dying child.

Drew Hoenigke, the father, admitted guilt to recklessly endangering another person and concealing the death of a child. Amy Hoenigke, the mother, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault. Sentencing will be determined at a later date by a Sullivan County judge.

The charges stem from the tragic events of January 17, 2022, when the Hoenigkes’ newborn son suffered respiratory distress and subsequent cardiac arrest. Despite recognizing the severity of the situation, neither parent nor a third involved individual, Brigitte Meckes, called 9-1-1. Text message records revealed all three were aware the baby was in critical condition but chose not to act.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Jaime Keating is prosecuting the case, with the case against Meckes still pending. She remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
