(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced yesterday the sentencing of two brothers and their uncle for a violent attack that critically injured a victim in Buffalo’s Broadway-Bailey neighborhood.

Amonti K. Atkins, 24, pleaded guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Gang Assault in the First Degree. He received a sentence of 12 1/2 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.
His brother, Amari K. Atkins, 28, also pleaded guilty to the same charges and received the same sentence of 12 1/2 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.
Their uncle, Demetrius F. Gore, 53, pleaded guilty to Assault in the Second Degree and was sentenced to 5 years in prison followed by 1 1/2 years of post-release supervision.
On August 20, 2023, at approximately 10:15 a.m., the trio assaulted a male victim on the 1500 block of Broadway. Following a dispute outside a bottle redemption center, Amonti Atkins stabbed the victim in the face. The brothers then repeatedly punched and kicked the victim while he lay on the ground. Gore kicked the victim in the back and stomped on his face. The victim was taken to ECMC with serious injuries and remains in a long-term care facility.
A final order of protection was issued for the victim. Acting DA Keane commended the Buffalo Police Department for their work on the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Briana R. D. Kalman and Nicholas C. Bussi.
