(WNY News Now) – Hamburg – Anthony Rydzewski, 41, of Angola, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, a Class “C” felony, for causing a fatal crash in the Town of Hamburg. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the plea, which was entered before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller.

On February 28, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Rydzewski was recklessly speeding northbound on Route 5 when he collided with another vehicle. The crash resulted in the death of 37-year-old Jenny E. Zuhlke of Hamburg. Rydzewski was injured and transported to ECMC for treatment.
Following the incident, Rydzewski fled and was later apprehended by the US Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. After waiving extradition, he was returned to Western New York by the Hamburg Police Department in April 2024.
Rydzewski, who remains held without bail, faces up to 15 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for August 30, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
Acting DA Keane praised the Town of Hamburg Police Department Accident Investigation Unit for their diligent work. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bethany A. Solek of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
