(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – Jerry L. Simpson, 30, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Jermaine Underwood on Kensington Avenue. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the sentence, which includes an additional 5 years of post-release supervision, this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens.

On January 5, 2023, at approximately 10:39 a.m., Simpson used an illegal firearm to shoot two individuals on the 900 block of Kensington Avenue, near Olympic Avenue. Jermaine Underwood, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 31-year-old male, sustained leg injuries and was treated at ECMC before being released.
Simpson pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony, on May 16, 2024. The prosecution was led by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca L. Schnirel of the Homicide Bureau.
Acting DA Keane praised the efforts of the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad and the responding officers for their diligent work on this case.
