(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua, NY – Squonk invites the community to become part of the performance in their new music spectacle, “Brouhaha,” featuring the interactive Squonkcordion.
Squonk, the Pittsburgh-based group renowned for their immersive outdoor spectacles, will bring their latest show, “Brouhaha,” to Chautauqua Institution on August 4 and 6, 2024. Known for combining rollicking music with dazzling imagery and audience participation, Squonk’s performance promises to be a highlight of the Institution’s 150th Anniversary celebrations.
“Brouhaha” centers around the Squonkcordion, an enormous musical instrument powered by behemoth bellows and topped with towering tuba bells. This interactive element invites the audience to play the foghorn organ, immersing them in the joyful cacophony of a brass band and the communal fireworks of music-making.
Led by Co-Artistic Directors Jackie Dempsey and Steve O’Hearn, Squonk has dazzled audiences from Off-Broadway to international stages in Europe and Asia. Their previous productions have been showcased by prestigious venues like Lincoln Center and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Squonk will perform on Bestor Plaza at Chautauqua Institution at 2:30 p.m. on August 4 and 7:30 p.m. on August 6. Both performances are free and open to the public. Attendees for the August 4 show must stop by the main gate to obtain a free pass.
