(WNY News Now) – CHAUTAUQUA LAKE, NY – A boating excursion turned tragic on July 27, 2024, when a Florida man was severely injured by a boat propeller in Shermans Bay off the Village of Lakewood.
At approximately 1:15 PM, Jamal Jaber, 31, from Lake Worth, Florida, jumped overboard from the swim platform of a vessel without notifying the operator, Anthony Pineda, 30, of Lakewood, NY. The boat’s propeller was still moving, and Jaber struck it with his left leg, resulting in severe lacerations to his lower leg, knee, and thigh.
Emergency responders from the Lakewood Fire Department, Chautauqua County Dive Team, Chautauqua County EMS, and Lakewood Busti Police Department swiftly arrived at the scene. Jaber was transported to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA, for urgent medical treatment.
Deputy Michael Williams and Deputy Brian Gustafson of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident. No charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
