(WNY News Now) – Bemus Point – An evening drive turned tragic in Bemus Point when a car struck a motorcycle, sending two young adults to the hospital with serious injuries.

On the night of August 4, 2024, at approximately 10:36 PM, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple fire departments and EMS units, responded to a severe motor vehicle accident on Route 430 in the Town of Ellery. The incident involved a car driven by Ruth Savchuk, 90, of Mentor, OH, and a motorcycle carrying Colin Keefe, 23, and Amber Eichelberger, 21, both of Mayville, NY.

According to initial reports, Savchuk was traveling westbound on Route 430 when she attempted to make a left turn onto Summit Ave. Unfortunately, she failed to yield the right of way to Keefe’s motorcycle, which was heading eastbound. The collision caused the motorcycle to veer off the roadway, resulting in significant injuries to both Keefe and Eichelberger.

First responders from the Maple Springs, Bemus Point, and Dewittville Fire Departments, along with Chautauqua County EMS, swiftly arrived at the scene. Keefe and Eichelberger were subsequently airlifted to UPMC Hamot by Stat Medivac for urgent medical treatment.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation into the crash is ongoing, with charges against Savchuk pending. If Savchuk is charged, she will be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
