(WNY News Now) – A tragic accident at the intersection of Lower Mountain Road and Baer Road claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman on August 25, 2024. The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) responded to multiple calls at 3:14 PM, reporting a serious motor vehicle collision involving a 2009 Ford pickup truck and a 2006 Mercury sedan.

CAMBRIA, NY – Initial investigations revealed that the Ford pickup, traveling northbound on Baer Road, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the westbound Mercury sedan. The impact was so severe that it caused the pickup to roll onto its side.

The backseat passenger of the Ford pickup, a 71-year-old female from Niagara Falls, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and were transported to ECMC for treatment. The Mercury sedan’s three occupants were also transported to ECMC, including the driver, who was airlifted via Mercy Flight due to a severe leg injury.

The identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The NCSO Accident Investigation Unit is currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash.
