(WNY News Now) – Buffalo. N.Y. – Drivers advised to plan alternate routes as exit 49 ramps close for safety improvements from 10 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the I-90 interchange ramps at exit 49 (Depew-Lockport) will be closed overnight on Sunday, September 15. The temporary closures will allow crews to safely perform guardrail repairs.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, through 5 a.m. Monday, September 16, the on-ramps at exit 49 will be closed to all traffic entering I-90 from Transit Road. While the closures are in place, travel will be allowed between Transit Road and the Tandem and Park and Ride lots.

Travelers can use Route 33 east to access the Thruway in either direction.

Additionally, the I-90 westbound exit 49 ramp from the Thruway will be closed to traffic during this time, including tandem combinations. Tandem vehicles will need to utilize the tandem lot at exit 48 (Batavia).

Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

For up-to-date travel information, motorists are encouraged to download the Thruway Authority’s mobile app which is available for free on iPhone and Android devices.
