(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – Falconer resident Anthony Neubauer has confessed to aiding in a 2014 kidnapping that ended in murder, as part of a chilling cold case investigation.

Anthony Neubauer, 38, of Falconer, NY, has pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting in the kidnapping of Joseph Anthony, a case that dates back to 2014 and has remained unsolved until now. Neubauer had previously been indicted in March of this year. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced the plea before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. Neubauer faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael J. Adler and Timothy C. Lynch, the crime unfolded on May 27, 2014. Neubauer and co-defendant Matthew Rudy lured Anthony from Jamestown, NY, to Rudy’s property in Pennsylvania with a false promise of cocaine. Once in Pennsylvania, Neubauer and Rudy informed Anthony that there was no cocaine, then proceeded to shoot and kill him. The body was subsequently buried on Rudy’s property.

Matthew Rudy, the co-defendant in this case, was previously convicted and is currently awaiting sentencing. The plea follows an extensive investigation led by the Jamestown Police Department under Chief Timothy Jackson and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, directed by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, with additional support from the Warren County, PA, District Attorney’s Office.

Sentencing for Neubauer is scheduled for January 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. before Judge Wolford.
