(WNY News Now) – Syracuse – Syracuse police are intensifying their investigation into the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Deron McGee, as three 16-year-old juveniles face serious charges in connection with the tragic incident.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 10:58 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to University Hospital following a report of a shooting with injuries. The victim, later identified as Deron McGee, was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. It was soon revealed that the shooting occurred in the 200 block of Westmoreland Ave.

The Criminal Investigation Division Homicide Unit swiftly initiated an investigation. Detectives conducted extensive interviews, canvassed the neighborhood, and executed several search warrants. Evidence collected was processed and analyzed meticulously, leading to the identification of three suspects.

The suspects, all 16-year-old male juveniles from Syracuse, have been charged with:

  • PL 125.25(1): Murder in the Second Degree
  • PL 256.03(1b): Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree

All three juveniles were arraigned and remanded to Hillbrook Detention Center. The investigation remains active, and authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Division.
