(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – Recent tips from Florida residents have renewed focus on Clarence Carl Carte, a person of interest in the 2004 murder of Yolanda Bindics in Jamestown, NY.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has received an influx of tips related to the unsolved murder of Yolanda Bindics, following renewed media attention in the Tampa Bay area. Clarence Carl Carte, a person of interest in the case, has been the subject of these tips, leading investigators to reexamine key details from the 2004 investigation.

Carte, who has a documented history of violence in both New York and Florida, is being scrutinized for his potential involvement in Bindics’ disappearance and murder. Authorities have expressed doubts about Carte’s alibi for the night of August 10, 2004, when Bindics was last seen alive. A single alibi was provided but was later proven false, leaving investigators without a credible explanation for Carte’s whereabouts during the critical time frame.

Further complicating the case, investigators revealed that Carte was familiar with the remote area of Chautauqua County where Bindics’ body was discovered. This proximity raises questions about his possible involvement in the crime, especially given the area’s distance from Bindics’ last known location.

Investigators also suggested that financial motives might have played a role. In the months leading up to Bindics’ disappearance, court orders regarding child support and expenses could have created financial strain for Carte, potentially providing a motive.

The Sheriff’s Office is now urging anyone in Florida who may have been a victim of Carte’s violent behavior to come forward, believing there may be unreported incidents of assault in the state. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Chautauqua County Tip Line at (716) 703-5955.
