(WNY News Now) – Lockport, N.Y. – David B. Fermoile, 65, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his sister, Diane Fermoile-McAvoy, 68, in a chilling family tragedy that rocked Lockport on June 7, 2023. In Niagara County Court Friday morning, Fermoile admitted to second-degree murder and now awaits sentencing.

“There is no way to adequately express the devastation that this crime has had on the victim’s family. I do hope this plea will provide them some closure,” said Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman in a statement following the hearing.

Fermoile’s sentence, set for December 11 before County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek, could range from 20 years to life in state prison. The case was thoroughly investigated by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, while the prosecution was led by First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann and Second Assistant District Attorney Peter Wydysh.
