(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for interior parts of Chautauqua and Southern Erie Counties from 8 PM tonight through 10 AM Thursday, urging residents to take protective measures against the cold.

A Freeze Warning has been issued for interior regions of Chautauqua and Southern Erie Counties, as temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s overnight. This warning, in effect from 8 PM EDT on Wednesday, October 16, until 10 AM EDT Thursday, October 17, highlights potential dangers to crops, sensitive plants, and outdoor plumbing.

Areas Affected: The freeze will impact areas away from the Lake Erie shoreline, specifically targeting inland locations where temperatures are forecast to fall below freezing.

Potential Impacts: Frost and freeze conditions could kill unprotected crops and damage vulnerable vegetation. There’s also a risk of outdoor plumbing systems freezing, which could lead to bursting pipes. Residents are advised to take preventive measures, such as draining sprinkler systems, covering exposed pipes, and allowing water to drip slowly to prevent freezing.
