(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, NY – A 25-year-old Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with a deadly shooting in the Grant-Amherst neighborhood in June 2022. Abdulla Abdalla, also known as “Dooley,” entered the plea before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes on Monday, November 26, 2024.

Abdalla, facing a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, admitted to fatally shooting 40-year-old Monroe J. Cross III with an illegal firearm inside an apartment on the 100 block of Grote Street on June 20, 2022. The victim, who was transported to ECMC following the shooting, succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
The guilty plea comes ahead of jury selection for Abdalla’s trial, which was scheduled to begin next week. He will be sentenced on April 14, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. and remains in custody without bail.
Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane praised the diligent work of the Buffalo Police Department’s retired Detective Anthony Lapiana, retired Detective Erin McCarthy, and Detective Judy Walker, as well as ECDA Confidential Criminal Investigator Salvatore Valvo for their contributions to the case.
This case was prosecuted by Chief Patrick B. Shanahan and Assistant District Attorney William Fitzgerald of the Felony Trials Bureau.
