(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, N.Y. – A 24-year-old Honduran national was arrested on November 22 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing in Buffalo after officers discovered he was a member of the notorious MS13 gang.

The incident began when the driver, identified as Franklyn Hernandez Giron, made an incorrect turn onto the Peace Bridge. At the primary inspection area, Giron failed to present a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)-compliant document, prompting officers to escort him to secondary inspection.

Upon further examination, CBP officers verified his identity and confirmed his affiliation with the Mara Salvatrucha (MS13) gang.

“This example of the dangerous individuals our CBP officers encounter highlights the dedication and commitment these officers have to keeping our communities safe,” said Gaetano Cordone, Area Port Director. “I’m proud of the work our officers do every day to safeguard America.”

Giron was taken into custody and is now facing removal proceedings.
