(WNY News Now) – A second suspect faces charges in the death of Jamar Martin after an extensive investigation by Syracuse Police.
The Syracuse Police Department continues to investigate the homicide of Jamar Martin, whose body was found on March 20, 2024, at 306 Basin Street. Officers responded to a status check at approximately 4:06 p.m. and discovered the victim, later identified as Martin, deceased at the scene.
In the following months, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) conducted a thorough investigation, including interviews with multiple witnesses and a citywide canvass. Several search warrants were executed, leading to the recovery and analysis of key evidence.
As a result of the diligent investigation, Destany Widger was arrested on April 3, 2024. A second suspect, Isaiah Wright, was identified in connection with the case. Wright, who had already been in custody for unrelated charges at the Onondaga County Justice Center, was charged on December 17, 2024, with additional offenses related to Martin’s death.
Wright, 25, of Syracuse, faces serious charges, including:
- Murder in the Second Degree (Penal Law 125.25)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Penal Law 265.02)
