(WNY News Now) – ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A parolee with a history of violent crime has been convicted of murdering his former employer in a shooting that took place in Gates in September 2023.
On the evening of September 30, Gates Police responded to a call on Pixley Parkway, where they discovered 47-year-old Jessica Romich deceased from at least one gunshot wound. Investigators soon determined that Malik Black, 48, drove to Romich’s business, approached her as she was leaving, and shot her in cold blood.
Black, who had previously been convicted of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, was out on parole at the time of the shooting. He was arrested and charged with Murder (1st) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon (3rd).
Black is set to be sentenced in New York State Supreme Court on January 29, 2025.
