(WNY News Now) – A fraudulent $100 bill and a quick transaction left a Town of Ripley business short-changed, leading to criminal charges for a Westfield woman.
RIPLEY, NY — Deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported fraud at a business on Shortman Road in the Town of Ripley early Sunday morning, December 29, 2024.
Upon investigation, authorities identified Kimberly A. Ramey, 47, of Westfield, NY, as the individual responsible for using a counterfeit $100 bill during a purchase. The fraudulent transaction allowed Ramey to steal cash back from the business, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Ramey was subsequently charged with Petit Larceny (PL 155.25) and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Third Degree (PL 170.20). She was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ripley Court at a later date to face the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
