(WNY News Now) – A Sunday evening collision on James Street left a 64-year-old woman hospitalized and the driver facing multiple charges, including Driving While Intoxicated.

Syracuse, NY — On Sunday, December 29th, at approximately 9:51 p.m., Syracuse Police responded to a hit-and-run incident near the intersection of James Street and North State Street. A 64-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle while crossing James Street, outside of a marked crosswalk.

Emergency responders transported the woman to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition. Authorities later confirmed that her condition had stabilized.

Following a preliminary investigation, officers identified and arrested the driver, 46-year-old Marquise Williams. Williams faces charges including Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash, Driving While Intoxicated, and Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree. He was issued an appearance ticket and released.

The Syracuse Police Department continues to investigate the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Traffic Division at (315) 442-5130.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
