(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop in Perrysburg led to the arrest of a 61-year-old man on drug possession and multiple vehicle operation charges.
On January 11, 2025, at approximately 6:54 PM, deputies from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Versailles Plank Road in the Town of Perrysburg. The stop was initiated due to an observed violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the driver, Leroy K. Gates, 61, of Irving, NY, was operating a vehicle without a valid license. Further checks revealed multiple offenses, including driving under a suspended New York State license, operating a vehicle outside of an ignition interlock restriction, and failing to stop at a stop sign.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, leading to additional charges for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. Gates was processed at the scene and released with an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Perrysburg Court at a later date to address the charges.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
