(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown man faces multiple charges after refusing to leave UPMC and resisting arrest on January 23, 2025.
JAMESTOWN, NY — Officers responded to UPMC on Foote Avenue around 10:20 a.m. on January 23, following a complaint about a disorderly individual. Joseph W. Kulig II, 42, of Jamestown, had reportedly refused to leave the hospital after receiving treatment.
Officers initially escorted Kulig off the premises without incident. However, around 10:48 a.m., an officer on patrol near the hospital was flagged down by a security guard who reported that Kulig had not left the property. Instead, he had entered an unoccupied vehicle parked near the hospital’s front entrance.
Upon finding Kulig sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, officers issued multiple commands for him to exit. Kulig refused to comply, prompting officers to remove him by force. During the process, he actively resisted arrest, but officers were eventually able to place him in custody.
Kulig was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he was charged with trespass, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, and resisting arrest. He is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
