Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced today that Jay M. Mudra, 30, of Buffalo, was sentenced to five years of probation by Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. The sentencing follows Mudra’s guilty plea to charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class “B” felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, a Class “C” felony.

The charges stem from a May 16, 2024, investigation by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 7:47 p.m., deputies executed a search warrant on Mudra during a traffic stop near Riverwoods Drive and Timberlink Drive in the Town of Grand Island. Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered a quantity of suspected cocaine, which was later confirmed by the Erie County Central Police Services laboratory.

Later that evening, at 8:39 p.m., authorities executed a second search warrant at Mudra’s residence on East River Road in Grand Island. During the search, investigators seized additional quantities of suspected cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, scales, and packaging materials. The substances were submitted for further testing, and the cocaine was confirmed as illegal narcotics.

Mudra pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2024. The investigation was conducted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations.

DA Keane commended the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit and Homeland Security Investigations for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Briana R.D. Kalman of the Narcotics/Intelligence Bureau.
