(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old man in the city’s Masten Park neighborhood.

Martinko Jamel Caver, 45, was sentenced on Thursday by Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio after pleading guilty to one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I felony. The plea, entered on November 25, 2024, satisfied the indictment in full.

According to prosecutors, the shooting occurred on September 5, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m. Caver intentionally shot the victim, George McGee III, with an illegal firearm on the 300 block of Glenwood Avenue. McGee was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane commended Buffalo Police Detective Thomas Nunan and Detective Sgt. Keith Fitzner for their investigative work. The case was prosecuted by First Deputy District Attorney Gary W. Hackbush and Assistant District Attorney Ryan M. Flaherty of the Major Crimes Bureau.
