(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man faces multiple charges after attempting to flee officers during a traffic stop and being found in possession of a loaded handgun.

Jamestown, N.Y. – On March 26, 2025, at 4:56 PM, officers conducting a Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) operation observed 23-year-old Nylix J. Thomas entering the driver’s seat of a vehicle near Pronto Mart on Forest Avenue. Thomas, who had an active warrant from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and a suspended license, drove away before being stopped by officers on Park Street near Linden Avenue.

During the stop, officers confirmed his warrant and asked Thomas to exit the vehicle. He then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and transported to the City Jail. Upon arrival, Thomas made another escape attempt while being removed from the patrol car, leading to a second brief foot chase before he was secured.

During the booking process, officers discovered a loaded handgun in Thomas’ possession. He now faces multiple charges, including failing to keep right, aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, and escape in the second degree.

Thomas is currently held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
