(WNY News Now) – SHERMAN, NY – A Sherman resident was taken into custody early Wednesday morning following an altercation with law enforcement.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported altercation at an address in the Town of Sherman around 1:02 a.m. on March 26, 2025. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to speak with the individuals involved, but they were uncooperative.

During the investigation, one of the individuals, identified as 39-year-old Daryll V. Thompson Jr. of Sherman, became combative and engaged in a physical altercation with a deputy. Thompson was subdued and taken into custody.

He has been charged with assault in the second degree and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree. Following his arrest, Thompson was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail, where he is being held pending centralized arraignment in Sherman Town Court.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
