(WNY News Now) – ELLICOTT, NY – A 75-year-old man from Celoron, Donald L. Ernewein, was arrested on Thursday evening after Town of Ellicott police responded to a warrant check. Ernewein, who was found to have an active felony extraditable warrant out of Florida, was taken into custody by officers and charged with Fugitive from Justice.

According to police reports, officers conducted a warrant check at approximately 6:50 PM on April 10. Upon making contact with Ernewein, they confirmed he was wanted in Florida for a felony offense. The arrest followed the verification of the outstanding warrant, which authorized his extradition back to Florida.

Ernewein was arrested without incident and transported to Chautauqua County Jail, where he is being held pending a centralized arraignment. He will await further proceedings related to his extradition to Florida. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
