(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, warning residents across Central and Western New York of potentially dangerous weather conditions.

As of 3:28 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, April 29, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 16 counties across Central and Western New York, effective until 10:00 p.m. EDT.

The watch covers the following counties:

  • Central New York: Cayuga, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego
  • Western New York: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, Wyoming

Communities under watch include Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Watertown, Auburn, Canandaigua, Jamestown, and several others.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms, which can include damaging winds, large hail, and frequent lightning. Residents are advised to stay alert, monitor local forecasts, and be prepared to seek shelter if warnings are issued.
