(WNY News Now) – A 33-year-old man was arrested in Westfield after violating a protection order and attempting to flee law enforcement following a reported altercation.

WESTFIELD, N.Y. — On Thursday, May 8, 2025, at approximately 5:02 p.m., deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Westfield Police Department responded to a reported altercation at a residence on North Portage Street in the Village of Westfield.

Upon arrival, law enforcement learned that the suspect, identified as Jonathan Vega-Rivera, 33, had allegedly violated a stay-away order of protection and threatened another individual with a screwdriver. While officers were gathering information, Vega-Rivera reportedly fled through a rear window of the residence, prompting a brief foot pursuit.

Deputies quickly located and apprehended Vega-Rivera. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment through the Centralized Arraignment Program (CAP).

Vega-Rivera faces multiple charges, including:

  • Criminal Contempt in the First Degree
  • Attempted Assault in the Second Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree
  • Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree

He is expected to appear in the Town of Westfield Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
