(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County deputies have charged two men following an investigation into a fraudulent check cashed in Bemus Point earlier this month.
BEMUS POINT – Two Jamestown residents have been charged in connection with a fraud case involving a forged check in the Village of Bemus Point, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a fraud complaint on Main Street around 9:55 a.m. on May 2, 2025. Following an investigation, authorities alleged that 51-year-old Scott A. George and 32-year-old Cody J. George, both of Jamestown, had forged a check and issued it to another individual, obtaining money under false pretenses.
As a result, both men were arrested on May 13, 2025.
Scott A. George faces multiple charges, including:
- Forgery in the 2nd Degree
- Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd Degree
- Petit Larceny
- Issuing a Bad Check
Cody J. George was charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd Degree
- Petit Larceny
- Issuing a Bad Check
Both individuals were released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellery Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
