(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to killing one person and injuring two others in three separate violent incidents last year.
Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that 29-year-old Emanuel T. Stokes, also known as Emmanuel Stokes and “Manny,” pleaded guilty to all charges in a multi-count indictment on Thursday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres.

Stokes admitted to one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class A-I felony), one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class B violent felony), two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C violent felonies), and two counts of Assault in the Second Degree (Class D violent felonies).
The charges stem from three separate violent incidents that occurred in Buffalo:
- On April 16, 2024, at approximately 1:55 a.m., Stokes shot a male victim at a residence on the 100 block of Orlando Street. The victim survived with injuries to his back, arm, and hand and was transported to ECMC.
- On May 12, 2024, during the early morning hours, Stokes fatally shot 34-year-old Nicholas Calhoun near Kehr and Urban Streets. Calhoun was transported in a private vehicle to ECMC, where he was pronounced dead.
- Later that same morning, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Stokes stabbed a teenage boy at a residence on the 200 block of Mills Street. The juvenile sustained a stab wound to the upper arm and a cut to the neck and was treated at Oishei Children’s Hospital.
At the time of his indictment arraignment, Stokes was already in custody following his arrest related to the May incidents. He was held without bail following his arraignment before Buffalo City Court Judge Tiffany R. Perry.
Stokes is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison and remains in custody without bail.
DA Keane acknowledged the efforts of Buffalo Police Department members, including Detectives Anthony D’Agostino and James McMahon, and Officers Thomas Herbert, Anthony Shea, Natasha Anderson, and Eileen Kline.
The prosecution team included Chief Cathleen M. Roemer (Felony Trials Bureau), ADA John P. Gerken, Jr. (Homicide Bureau), ADA Timothy J. Garvin (Major Crimes Bureau), and ADA Caitlyn G. Burns (Domestic Violence/Special Victims Bureau).
