(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is alerting customers to a new phone scam reported in the area.

A BPU customer recently reported receiving a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from Con Edison Electric. The caller attempted to discuss the customer’s electric bill and requested personal financial information, including credit card, debit card, or bank account details.

The calls reportedly originated from phone numbers with California (CA) and Ohio (OH) area codes.

BPU officials emphasize that this is a scam and advise customers to remain cautious when receiving unsolicited phone calls. The BPU reminds customers not to give such information out over the phone to someone you do not know or whose phone number you do not recognize.

This is the most recent scam reported to the BPU, highlighting the continued risk of fraud targeting utility customers. Stay vigilant and protect your personal information.
