(WNY News Now) – DUNKIRK, NY — A Jamestown woman was taken into custody on May 31 after allegedly attempting to conceal her identity from police during a warrant check in Dunkirk.

According to the Dunkirk Police Department, officers were conducting a warrant check in the area of East 6th Street and Park Avenue around 6:47 p.m. on May 31 when they encountered a woman later identified as 33-year-old Brittney R. Washington of Jamestown.

Police say Washington initially provided false identification in an effort to avoid arrest, repeatedly identifying herself as another individual. Officers were able to confirm her true identity and determined that she had active warrants issued by the Jamestown Police Department.

Washington was arrested and charged with Criminal Impersonation in the Second Degree under New York Penal Law 190.25(1). She was subsequently turned over to Jamestown Police to answer the outstanding warrants. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
