(WNY News Now) – A 41-year-old Dunkirk resident was arrested during a warrant check and now faces multiple drug charges following a police stop on Washington Avenue.

DUNKIRK, NY — On Friday, May 30, 2025, at approximately 5:19 p.m., officers with the Dunkirk Police Department took Jonathan A. Herdzik, 41, of Dunkirk, into custody during a warrant check near East 2nd Street and Washington Avenue.

According to police, Herdzik had an active warrant issued by the Fredonia Police Department. He was apprehended without incident.

During the arrest, officers reportedly found approximately 0.3 grams of suspected fentanyl, 1.4 grams of suspected cocaine, and 0.38 grams of suspected methamphetamine on Herdzik’s person. As a result, he was charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (PL 220.03).

Following processing, Herdzik was turned over to the Fredonia Police Department on their warrant. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
