(WNY News Now) – A U.S. citizen was arrested after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered over $230,000 worth of marijuana hidden in a rental truck at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing intercepted a significant quantity of marijuana during a routine inspection on June 15, leading to the arrest of a United States citizen.

According to CBP, 43-year-old Ronald Nunn was driving a rental truck when he mistakenly turned onto the Peace Bridge, claiming his GPS had directed him toward Canada. Upon realizing the error, Nunn returned to the U.S. side, where CBP officers conducted a primary inspection.

Nunn reportedly told officers the truck was empty. However, during further inspection, several cardboard boxes were found in the truck’s cargo area. This prompted a secondary inspection, where CBP officers uncovered 60 vacuum-sealed packages weighing approximately 78 pounds. Field testing confirmed the contents as marijuana, with an estimated street value of $230,000.

“Our dedicated CBP officers continue to perform their jobs at the highest levels,” said Area Port Director Gaetano Cordone. “Their training and experience help to keep our communities safe from these illegal narcotics.”

Nunn was taken into custody and processed by CBP before being turned over to the Buffalo Police Department. He is expected to face felony charges for Criminal Possession of Cannabis.

Authorities remind the public that criminal charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
