(WNY News Now) – With the backing of dedicated local sponsors, Chautauqua Lake students showcased their skills on an international stage at the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas.
MAYVILLE – A team of students from Chautauqua Lake Central School District had the opportunity to attend the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas TX, with the support of several local businesses and organizations. The World Championship welcomed thousands of students from all 50 states and dozens of countries. The Chautauqua Lake ‘Nerd Herd’ team placed 2nd in a statewide competition among New York State schools to advance to the World Championship. At the World Championship, teams battled through ten qualifying matches in the Innovate Division and finished in 34th place among 80 competing teams within that division.
The ’Nerd Herd’ team consisted of Devin Kelsey, Zach Braun, Evan Riedesel, Anthony Powell, Nate Henry, Logan Ludwig, Charles Curtis, Lincoln Smith and Bennett Birkner. The team was guided by CLCS teacher-coach Alex Reyda
The collective support of the community was instrumental to enabling students to participate in the biggest robotics competition in the world and gain invaluable real-world experience. Miraclean and Dream It Do It Western New York were major sponsors in helping support the team’s trip to Dallas. Other local supporters included Jamestown Plastics, No Excuse Sportswear, Ashville Fire Department, Schack, Nelson & Courtis, Deborah Cenni, Chautauqua Lake Dental, Veterans of Foreign Wars Mayville, AJ Texas Hots, Fancher Chair, Hogan’s Hutt, Shear Style, Julie Treadway and Trischa Delcamp.
