Jamestown Police say suspect caused extensive damage during attempted break-in early Tuesday morning

(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A 25-year-old Jamestown man is facing a felony charge after allegedly attempting to break into a coin-operated vacuum machine at a local car wash during the early morning hours of June 18.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the 3rd Platoon responded around 2:26 a.m. to a report of a man trying to access a coin machine at the EZ Clean Car Wash, located at 17 West Harrison Street.

Upon arrival, officers found William R. Gardner actively prying open a vacuum machine in an attempt to steal change. Police say Gardner caused significant damage to the equipment during the attempted break-in.

Gardner was arrested at the scene and charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a felony offense under New York State law.

He is currently being held in the Jamestown City Jail, pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
