(WNY News Now) – A bench warrant arrest led to additional drug charges after a man was stopped while riding a bicycle in Allegany, New York.
ALLEGANY, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of 34-year-old Michael C. Lathrop of Olean, following a warrant stop that resulted in the discovery of suspected illegal drugs and paraphernalia.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:22 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, on Route 417 in Allegany. Deputies located Lathrop riding a bicycle and determined he had an active bench warrant issued by the City of Olean Police Department related to a prior drug arrest.
During a search conducted as part of the arrest, deputies reportedly found suspected crystal methamphetamine, suspected Lortab pills, drug packaging materials, and other paraphernalia in Lathrop’s possession.
Lathrop was taken to the City of Olean Police Department for processing. He was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree for possessing packaging materials.
He was issued an appearance ticket for the new charges and subsequently turned over to the City of Olean Police Department on the outstanding warrant. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
