(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southeastern Allegany County, effective until 4:45 PM EDT on July 7.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo office at 3:48 PM EDT on Monday, July 7, warning residents in southeastern Allegany County of potentially damaging weather conditions.

At the time of issuance, a severe thunderstorm was located over Wellsville, moving east at approximately 40 mph. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph, according to radar data.

These strong winds may result in damage to roofs, siding, and trees. The warning affects several communities, including Wellsville, Alfred, Whitesville, Scio, Andover, Belmont, Alma, Almond, West Almond, and Stannards.

Motorists traveling along Interstate 86 between exits 32 and 33 are advised to use caution and monitor for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building for protection.
