(WNY News Now) – A 36-year-old Jamestown man was arrested for attempted robbery after a fight in the downtown area left a 19-year-old victim injured on July 9.

On July 9, 2025, at approximately 7:57 a.m., Jamestown police officers responded to a report of a fight in the downtown area. Upon arrival, officers found a 19-year-old victim lying on the ground. The victim reported being assaulted by an unknown male who had jumped him.

Through their investigation, officers located the suspect nearby and identified him as 36-year-old John Lopez Alvarez. Witness statements and evidence indicated Alvarez was punching and kicking the victim while he was on the ground and threatened to take the victim’s property, which was only interrupted when a passerby shouted, causing the suspect to stop.
