Chautauqua County authorities charge inmate for allegedly striking correction officer
(WNY News Now) – An inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail is facing new charges after allegedly assaulting a correction officer during an incident inside the facility.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, 48-year-old Lawrence A. Gibbons of Jamestown, NY was charged with Attempted Assault in the Second Degree following an altercation on July 21, 2025. The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. and was investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division.
Officials say the investigation determined that Gibbons struck a correction officer in the face and jaw during the incident. Gibbons, already incarcerated at the Chautauqua County Jail at the time, was processed through the Centralized Arraignment Process. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
