(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A 32-year-old Lakewood resident was arrested Saturday afternoon after fleeing from police during a street check in Jamestown.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the 1st platoon attempted to stop Zachary A. Hernandez around 1:13 p.m. on August 30 in the area of McKinley Avenue and Park Street for a local city code violation. Police said Hernandez ignored verbal commands and attempted to flee on his bicycle.
He was taken into custody a short time later near Forest Avenue and Warner Place. Officers transported Hernandez to the Jamestown City Jail, where he was booked on multiple outstanding bench warrants.
In addition to the warrants, Hernandez faces charges of riding a bicycle on a city sidewalk, a prohibited violation, and resisting arrest. He is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
