(WNY News Now) – A girl reported missing in Rochester earlier this month was safely recovered in Illinois by U.S. Marshals, working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Marshals Service announced that a child reported missing from Rochester, New York, on September 11, 2025, has been located near Chicago, Illinois. The recovery took place on September 20 following a multi-agency effort that included the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and local law enforcement.

According to officials, the Rochester Police Department requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals on September 16 after an investigation revealed that the girl had left her family’s home days earlier. Surveillance video reportedly showed three individuals meeting the child near her residence before leaving in a light-colored SUV.

Leads developed by Marshals in Rochester suggested the child had traveled to the Chicago area. That information was passed to Marshals in the Northern District of Illinois, who located the girl at an apartment complex on the 2300 block of West 119th Street in Blue Island, Illinois.

Authorities stated the child was found in the company of two men—an 18-year-old and his father—who were later determined by Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be in the U.S. without legal status.

“The United States Marshals Service worked tirelessly to recover this endangered child from the predators who should have never been in this country to take her from the safety of her family and home. Our children deserve safe cities!” said U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces S. Serralta.
