(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, N.Y. — A Delevan man faces multiple drug and traffic charges after deputies allegedly discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop in Olean early Thursday morning.
According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle operated by Corey J. Vail, 32, on South 7th Street in Olean at approximately 3:27 a.m. on October 2, 2025, for several vehicle and traffic violations.
Deputies reported that before stopping, Vail was seen throwing an object from the driver’s window. The discarded item — a baggie containing a quantity of suspected methamphetamine — was later recovered near the intersection of South 7th Street and West State Street.
K9 Lex was deployed to search the vehicle and reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics inside a black backpack on the passenger seat. A subsequent search revealed additional suspected methamphetamine, a scale with residue, and packaging materials.
Vail was taken into custody and processed at the Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation. He was later released on an appearance ticket and several uniform traffic tickets.
He is charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree (Scales)
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree (Packaging)
- Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
- No/Inadequate Headlights
- No/Inadequate Taillight
- Muffler/Exhaust Violation
Vail is scheduled to appear in Olean City Court at a later date for further proceedings. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
