(WNY News Now) – ELLICOTT, N.Y. — A Pennsylvania man faces a criminal possession of a firearm charge after allegedly leaving a handgun in the restroom of a local business, according to the Town of Ellicott Police Department.
Police say officers responded to a found property complaint on October 20, 2025, and determined that Nathan A. Kowatch, 34, of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, had left a handgun behind. Investigation revealed that Kowatch does not possess a New York State pistol permit, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm within the state.
Kowatch was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and issued an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to answer to the charge. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
