(WNY News Now) – POMFRET, N.Y. — A Pomfret man was taken into custody Friday night after deputies responded to reports of loose horses causing property damage and traffic hazards in the area.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Town of Pomfret on October 31, 2025, around 8:03 p.m., following complaints of horses in the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies identified the horse’s owner as 39-year-old Jacob H. Tye of Pomfret.
Deputies reported that Tye had repeatedly released the animals, resulting in damage to nearby properties and creating safety risks for motorists. When deputies attempted to arrest him, Tye allegedly fled on foot in an effort to evade custody.
He was subsequently apprehended and charged with Reckless Endangerment of Property and Resisting Arrest. Deputies also discovered that Tye had an outstanding warrant at the time of his arrest.
Tye was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail to participate in the Centralized Arraignment Program, where he was arraigned on all charges. He is scheduled to appear in Pomfret Town Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
