(WNY News Now) – A Winter Weather Advisory is in place from early Wednesday morning through late Wednesday evening, with hazardous travel conditions expected across multiple counties in Western New York.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST on Wednesday, December 10, warning residents of 4 to 8 inches of snow, accompanied by wind gusts up to 35 mph.
The advisory covers Southern Erie County, Wyoming County, and the western Southern Tier, where snowfall is expected to impact both the morning and evening commutes. Officials caution that travel may become difficult due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
According to the NWS, snow will begin overnight and transition to rain and drizzle early Wednesday, especially in lower elevations near Lake Erie. As temperatures rise during the day, inland low-lying areas are also expected to shift from snow to rain. Higher elevations and hilltops may continue to see wet snow throughout the day before a colder air mass brings a return to lighter, fluffier snow by early evening.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and prepare for changing conditions throughout the day. Periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain may create slick roadways and visibility challenges.
Residents are encouraged to submit snow and ice reports through the National Weather Service’s website or social media platforms as the system moves through the region.
