(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown resident is facing multiple charges after police say a bicycle stop for equipment violations led to a brief foot pursuit and the recovery of suspected drugs.
Officers with the Jamestown Police Department arrested 34-year-old Ramael O. Fields on Thursday evening, December 18, 2025, following a street check in the area of Willard Street and Allen Street.
According to police, officers assigned to the department’s 2nd Platoon stopped a bicycle at approximately 6:04 p.m. after observing equipment violations. The operator was identified as Fields. While speaking with him, officers reported observing a plastic bag containing suspected illegal drugs protruding from a coat pocket.
Police say that when officers attempted to retrieve the bag, Fields fled on foot. After a brief pursuit and physical struggle, officers were able to subdue Fields and take him into custody. During the pursuit, police allege Fields threw the plastic bag into a storm drain in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Officers were able to recover the bag, which police say contained a quantity of methamphetamine.
Fields was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he was charged with tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, and resisting arrest. Police also issued uniform traffic tickets related to the bicycle stop.
Fields was held at the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
All charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
