(WNY News Now) – WESTFIELD, N.Y. — A Westfield man is facing felony charges after authorities say he shot a woman during a domestic altercation Saturday evening and then fled, leading police on a vehicle pursuit before being captured.

According to the Westfield Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:24 p.m. on March 7, 2026, to a residence in the Village of Westfield, New York for a report of a shooting.

Police responded along with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office.

Following an extensive investigation at the scene, authorities determined that Jahmaul W. Johnson, 52, of Westfield, allegedly shot and wounded an adult female during an altercation inside the residence.

Investigators said Johnson fled the scene in a vehicle. Law enforcement located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit that ended in the Town of Pomfret, New York. Johnson then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office took Johnson into custody a short time later.

The female victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities reported she is currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Johnson has been charged with Attempted Assault in the First Degree. He was transported to the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) for arraignment.

Officials say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional charges are expected.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
