(WNY News Now) – LOCKPORT, NY — A Niagara County jury has found a Niagara Falls man guilty of felony animal cruelty and criminal mischief after prosecutors said he strangled a puppy, causing life-threatening injuries.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that 33-year-old Brandon J. Wall was convicted of Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree following a jury trial concluded this afternoon.

According to prosecutors, Wall attacked a puppy belonging to his significant other, strangling the animal and leaving it in critical condition. The puppy required intensive veterinary care to survive its injuries.

“It is hard to imagine how a person could hurt a helpless pet in this way,” Seaman said in a statement. “We will be asking the judge to impose a state prison sentence.”

Wall now faces a potential maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison. He is scheduled to return to Niagara County Court for sentencing before Judge Caroline Wojtaszek.

The case was investigated by the Niagara Falls Police Department. Assistant District Attorneys Derek Hafner and Raymond Fadel handled the prosecution.
